Stadtwirtschaft

The Stadtwirtschaft is one of the many intervention sites that have emerged as part of the 2025 Capital of Culture initiative – here, the former premises of Chemnitz’s municipal services department have been transformed into a new cultural hotspot.

As the former municipal services department, the site housed the vehicle fleet until 1994 and was used for administrative, maintenance and storage purposes. The site covers a total area of 12,000 m².

Today, visitors can enjoy a range of regular activities, from the open workshop, the print shop and the open materials store to the Paper Lantern Community Choir, which offers opportunities to sing and make music together. In addition, many interesting companies and artists have set up home on the site.
