Viadukt Beckerbrücke

The listed railway viaduct, also known as the Chemnitz Valley Viaduct or Becker Bridge, was built between 1901 and 1909 as part of the Dresden–Werdau railway line. It spans Annaberger Straße, the River Chemnitz and Beckerstraße. The steel structure was supplied by the Königin Marienhütte in Cainsdort near Zwickau. Whilst four tracks originally ran across the valley for 20 years, two tracks were later decommissioned and dismantled after the Second World War as reparations.

In the 2000s, plans were initially made to demolish and rebuild the viaduct. Following widespread protests by the people of Chemnitz, the railway company and heritage authorities eventually began working together from 2022 on its conservation and restoration in accordance with heritage standards.

In 2025, the engineering firm involved and DB InfraGO were awarded the German Bridge Prize in the ‘Special Heritage Prize’ category.
